Ahead of its 1000th West End performance this week, Hadestown has announced the five new leads that will be heading to the Underworld this September.
The Wanted singer-songwriter Nathan Sykes will be making his West End debut as Orpheus, starring alongside rising star Fayth Ifil (Just For One Day) as Euridyce.
Olivier Award winner opera performer Danielle de Niese will be playing Persephone, alongside Shaun Dooley (Mr Bates vs The Post Office) as Hades, and Malinda Parris (The Little Big Things, &Juliet) as Hermes.
They will be joining the current cast from September 15, which includes Melanie Bright, Spike Maxwell, and Lauran Rae are the Fates, alongside Femi Akinfolarin, Michelle Andrews, Gabriela Benedetti, Ollie Bingham and Sebastian Lim-Seet as the Workers, with Juan Jackson, Oisín Nolan-Power, Lindo Shinda, Jasmine Triadi and Milly Willows as swings.
The award-winning musical retells the myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hades and Persephone. With a modern American folk and vintage New Orleans jazz score, it features music, lyrics and book by Anaïs Mitchell, with direction by Rachel Chavkin.
Hadestown made its West End debut in February 2024, and has since captured the hearts of thousands of theatregoers. The musical is also running on Broadway, where it won 8 Tony Awards, and a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album.
In 2025, original Broadway cast members including Andre de Shields, Eva Noblezada and Reeve Carney reunited in London for a limited run. Three of the performances were recorded, with Hadestown: The Musical due for release in North American cinemas on July 24, 2026, before an October release in the UK.
Next year, Hadestown will also embark on a tour across the UK, opening in Leicester on February 19. Check out the full list of dates.
