Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign RB Leipzig defender David Raum, as per transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
After moving to Red Bull Arena from TSG Hoffenheim back in 2022, the 28-year-old initially featured as a rotational option before establishing himself as a key starter in recent seasons.
The German has helped his side win two domestic cup competitions over the last few years. Last season, Raum showcased his productivity, scoring three goals and registering nine assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
Moreover, he helped his side keep eight clean sheets. Having proven his worth in club football, Raum has secured his place in the Germany national team.
However, with the defender’s existing deal set to run until next summer, speculation surrounding his future has started emerging in this window. Now, on The United Stand YouTube channel, Jacobs states that Man Utd have been offered the chance to sign the Leipzig star.
It has been widely reported that the Old Trafford club want a new left-back late in this window and have been linked with numerous names, with Lewis Hall and Jorge Salinas being among them.
Raum, valued at around £21m by Transfermarkt, is a technically gifted left-footed left-back. He is quick, comfortable playing out from the back, efficient in delivering excellent crosses from the flank, and is strong in defensive contributions.
Room to Man Utd
Man Utd currently have Luke Shaw as the first-choice left-back option. However, he has entered the final year of his current deal and has had numerous fitness problems over the years.
Patrick Dorgu was purchased as a potential long-term replacement for the former Southampton star, but he has been displaying his best as a forward under Michael Carrick.
Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can provide cover in the left-back position if needed, but they are right-backs by trait. So, Man Utd could do with signing a new left-back.
Raum is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd should they eventually opt to secure his services this summer.
