Infosys has been fined €175,000 or around ₹2 crore, by a French labour authority for failing to ensure its employee working time recording system fully complied with local legal requirements, according to a regulatory filing by the company on Saturday.
DRIEETS Île-de-France imposed the penalty. Infosys said it received the communication from the authority on July 24.
“The authority found that Infosys’ working time recording system did not fully comply with French legal requirements, citing shortcomings in its reliability, auditability and monitoring capabilities for certain employee categories,” the company said in the filing.
Infosys said the fine would have no material impact on its financials, operations or other business activities.
“The company was in the process of checking the veracity and determining further steps, upon receipt of communication,” Infosys added. It did not disclose whether it intends to challenge the order or take any further legal action.
The latest penalty adds to a handful of labour- and compliance-related issues Infosys has faced over the years. In 2013, the company paid $34 million to settle civil claims with US authorities over the alleged misuse of B-1 business visas, while denying any wrongdoing. More recently, Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy sparked a nationwide debate after advocating a 70-hour work week for young Indians, drawing criticism from labour groups and employees over concerns around work-life balance.
