Vocal powerhouse Sam Ryder has released ‘What’s The Buzz?’, the second recording from the highly anticipated West End Revival of Jesus Christ Superstar.
With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, ‘What’s The Buzz?’ was recorded live to tape at the renowned British Grove Studios. Infused with 70s influence, the track is driven by a funky baseline with skilful guitar and synth solos, alongside Sam’s striking vocals. ‘What’s The Buzz?’ was produced by Sam, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and legendary Grammy Award winner Fraser T. Smith.
On the new release, Sam said, “It was a pleasure co-producing this with Fraser and Andrew. I hope you can feel the mind blowing attention to detail and homage being paid to the heritage of this fascinating and legendary score. It means as much to us as it does to so many across the world. Next stop, The London Palladium!”
‘What’s The Buzz?’ follows on from the release of ‘Gethsemane’, which Sam recently performed live on Britain’s Got Talent. The emotional climax of the show, ‘Gethsemane’ shows off Sam’s vocal acrobatics, passion and vulnerability which the iconic song calls for.
Both tracks give fans a glimpse into what they can expect from the live production this summer, which opens at the London Palladium tomorrow night. Due to phenomenal demand, The London Palladium season has already broken box office records and has been extended for a limited 12-week run at Theatre Royal Drury Lane starting in October.
Sam will be making his West End debut in the titular role of Jesus, alongside Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Richard Armitage, Boy George, Layton Williams and Julian Clary sharing the role of King Herod during the Palladium run.
He will return for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane run, starring alongside Matt Bomer, Rob Brydon, Reece Shearsmith, Bob The Drag Queen, Michael Ball, Simon Russell Beale (rescheduled from The Palladium), Omid Djalili, and Layton Williams who will share the role of King Herod. One final Herod for the final week of performances will be revealed in due course.
Jesus Christ Superstar is playing The London Palladium for 11 weeks from Saturday, June 20th to Saturday, September 5th 2026 and will extend for a limited 12-week engagement at Theatre Royal Drury Lane from Friday, October 16th 2026 to Saturday, January 9th 2027.
‘What’s The Buzz?’ is out now on all digital platforms. The two brand new recordings, ‘What’s The Buzz’ and ‘Gethsemane’, have been pressed on striking white 10” vinyl, on sale from opening night, 7th July.
