Spinoff for Apple TV+’s Silo Could Soon Be in the Works

Of all the gems on Apple TV+, Silo is one of the best. However, the series based on Hugh Howey’s Silo trilogy of novels is set to end after its fourth season in 2027.

The good news, though, is that it has been reported that there could soon be a spinoff based on some other works from Howey. The author is working on a new trilogy about Silo 40, and this could be adapted into a new series in the Silo universe.

Spinoff Will Adapt New Book from Hugh Howey

Rebecca Ferguson’s time as Juliette Nichols may soon be coming to an end, but fans of the dystopian sci-fi offering may soon have equally compelling characters to root for. The original series has introduced an apocalyptic vision of the future, in which the Earth’s atmosphere has become uninhabitable, and survivors are living in silos deep underground. We know that there are 50 of these, meaning that there’s great potential for spinoffs in the franchise.

In 2023, Howey revealed that he was working on a new book trilogy focusing on Silo 40, which is said to be one of the most mysterious structures in the author’s dystopian world. There’s already speculation that Apple TV+ could adapt this series to keep the Silo franchise going, and the new offering could act as a prequel and sequel to Silo in a similar fashion to Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad.

Silo Could Grow into a Huge Franchise for Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has a quality series on its hands with Silo, and it would make sense for the company to do everything it can to keep it alive as long as possible. Other streaming platforms have leaned into the franchise model in recent years to great effect, and there are various other series that Apple TV+ could look to for inspiration.

For example, when Game of Thrones ended, HBO knew that it needed to provide more content to maintain interest in the franchise. It quickly came up with the prequel spinoff, House of the Dragon, which has become one of the flagship series on Max. It has even inspired spinoff games such as House of the Dragon, aimed at players of UK casino sites, and the mobile game Game of Thrones: Dragonfire. Silo could go the same way and inspire titles in other media to give fans new ways to discover it.

Other Excellent Sci-Fi Shows from Apple TV+

Even though there’s a good chance that there will be a Silo spinoff, there could be a long wait before it hits Apple TV+. Luckily for Silo fans, the platform offers several other excellent sci-fi shows.

Severance is one of the standout options and, just like Silo, has a mystery at its core. There’s also Foundation, which is an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s novels about the fall of a galactic empire.

Apple TV+ has yet to establish a major spinoff franchise from its flagship science fiction series, but it could be about to do so. Silo is the perfect option for a franchise, as spinoffs would allow viewers to discover more about the post-apocalyptic world.
