Much of England has yellow weather warnings in effect while more severe amber alerts are in place in Scotland.

And the bad weather could have an impact on this weekend’s football.

Friday’s National League tie between Gateshead and Tamworth was postponed earlier in the day due to an ‘unplayable playing surface’.

As it stands, no games in the Premier League, EFL or in Scotland have been called off, but that could change over the coming hours.

Premier League matches at risk

Friday night’s top-flight game between Ipswich and Nottingham Forest is not in doubt with conditions set to be fine.

The first tie of Matchweek 8 will be live on talkSPORT at 8pm with coverage coming from Hugh Woozencroft, Joe Shennan and former England striker Dean Ashton.

Similarly, Saturday’s games of Aston Villa vs Manchester City, Arsenal vs Everton and Chelsea vs Tottenham all appear to have escaped the worst of the weather.

Coventry vs Fulham at 3pm could be the most at risk on Saturday with heavy downpours and wing gusts of 44MPH expected around kick-off.

The inclement weather will continue into Sunday and there are five Premier League games in the schedule.

Crystal Palace vs Newcastle would appear to be fine, but the other four games are taking place in the north of the country and could all be in trouble.

Everton vs Liverpool postponed in 2024

Severe weather has caused mayhem in recent years with 2024’s Storm Darragh seeing Everton vs Liverpool postponed amid a swath of cancellations.

The Met Office issued its highest-level red warning on that December weekend amid winds of 90MPH.

The Merseyside derby was called off just a few hours before the scheduled kick-off with Liverpool stating that the game couldn’t go ahead ‘due to the risk to safety in the local area’.

Everton added: “Whilst we appreciate this will be deeply disappointing for supporters, the safety of fans, staff and players is of paramount importance.”

The same weekend saw eight EFL games postponed plus matches in Scotland and Ireland.

Storm Austen has not put paid to any matches this weekend as of yet but talkSPORT.com will bring you the latest news should any games be forced off.
