Slovenia’s manager Bostjan Cesar has defended Benjamin Sesko after Wayne Rooney took a swipe at the forward.
Sesko missed the 1-1 draw against Fulham before the international break due to a shin injury.

But Rooney hit out at the striker during the latest edition of Stick to United.

He said: “Shin? Has he broken it?
“You can hurt your shin, you can take tackles… I bet he’s wearing them little stupid shinpads as well.
“If you’re trying to play No9 [for Man United] and you’ve got a must-win game and you’ve got a sore shin and you’re not playing… that’s a big part of the problem.
“Unless you physically can’t play, you play when you’re injured. I remember before games we used to get injections and the doctor used to put them in your arse.”

In response, Cesar has defended the 23-year-old, who asked for permission to leave Manchester during the international break and join up with his Slovenia teammates.
Cesar said: “This isn’t an easy time for Benjamin.
“He is going through a difficult period in his career, as we know he hasn’t suffered many injuries in the past. It is an atypical injury that requires time to heal.
“The most important thing now is for Sesko to surround himself with people he trusts and believes in, and for everyone around him to remain positive.
“Because that is what he needs. He needs time, he needs good rehabilitation – and Slovenia needs him too, once he is fully healthy.”

Frustration
Sesko is yet to start a Premier League game for United this season.
He was a substitute in the first four fixtures and scored in the 2-2 draw with Everton.
But his only starts have come in the Champions League against Sabah and in the Carabao Cup versus Brighton.
However, he is struggling with an ongoing shin problem that is limiting how many minutes he can play.
He is currently been assessed at Carrington as they look to get to the bottom of the problem.
It’s clearly annoying Sesko as well as he went on social media and said: “I am very sorry that I will have to miss the next matches of the national team.

“I have always played for Slovenia and will always play with heart and pride. The most important thing now is to fully dedicate myself to recovery.
“I am already working on getting back on the field as soon as possible and helping the national team and the club again.
“I believe in our boys, and I am sure that they will show the team spirit that has always adorned us this time.
“I can’t wait to be able to wear the jersey with the national emblem again and, until then, I will be Slovenia’s biggest fan.”
First up for Slovenia is Scotland at home, and Sesko will be cheering them on.
