Ruben Amorim has apologised to The United Strand for failing to win five straight matches that would activated a long-awaited haircut.
Manchester United fan Frank Ilett has gone viral for promising to not cut his hair until they win five consecutive fixtures.

The challenge commenced in October 2024 and, due to United failing to hit such a streak, Ilett has seen his hair grow extensively.
Speaking to talkSPORT last year, he detailed his ideal plan of having his hair cut at Old Trafford once the club hit five-in-a-row.
It will then be donated to The Little Princess Trust, who provide wigs for children and young people that have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatment or other conditions.
United last won five consecutive matches in February 2024 when Erik ten Hag was their manager, with Amorim unveiled as his permanent successor nine months later.
He couldn’t replicate the feat during his poor spell and was sacked in January but, after so long, it appears to have still stuck in his mind.
In a post on Instagram, Ilett revealed that he met Amorim in person at the Portugal Football Summit.
Alongside a picture of him standing with the Portuguese, who joined AC Milan as head coach in the summer, he added: “He saw me, pointed to my hair and said, ‘Sorry about that!'”
Was Amorim close to five-in-a-row at United?
Amorim, who recently admitted he cannot repeat the mistakes he made at United with Milan, won 25 of his 63 matches at the former.
During his near-14 month spell in charge, his best run of successive wins was just three, which happened on two occasions.
The first occurred with victories over Rangers, Fulham and Steaua Bucharest in January 2025, and the second was during October that year as they beat Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton.

Amorim was dismissed on January and replaced by Michael Carrick, who nearly hit five-in-a-row at the start of his tenure.
United won against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur, but a 1-1 draw with West Ham ended the streak.
So far this season, they haven’t claimed two consecutive victories and are currently on a winless run of three.
They have only one win in the Premier League and linger in 12th on five points after as many matches.
Pressure has started to mount on Carrick amid their disappointing opening run of results.
With the international break now underway, United have to wait until October 10 to play again when they host rock-bottom Spurs.
