Iran live updates: Trump’s national security team gathered after US warplanes hit


A U.S. fighter jet was shot down by Iran over Iranian territory, and a search and rescue effort is underway, according to three U.S. officials.

One crew member aboard the downed two-seater F-15E has been rescued, according to a U.S. official. The status of the other crew member is unknown, the official said.

Amid the search and rescue mission, a second U.S. military aircraft and two Black Hawk helicopters involved in the effort were also struck by incoming fire, officials said.

A U.S. Air Force one-seater A-10 Warthog attack aircraft that was providing close air support for the mission was hit by incoming fire over Iran and crashed in Kuwait, according to a U.S. official. The pilot was rescued, according to the official. Their condition was unclear.

There were injuries to some of the crew aboard the Black Hawk helicopters, both of which were able to make it back to their base, a U.S. official said.
