Everton showing ‘genuine’ interest in Kieran Trippier

Everton are reportedly showing ‘genuine’ interest in signing Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier, as per TEAMtalk.

After winning a La Liga title with Atletico Madrid, the 35-year-old joined the Magpies back in 2022. He has enjoyed a successful time at St James’ Park over the last few years, winning a Carabao Cup trophy.

But he has shown signs of decline this season, registering four assists and keeping six clean sheets in 37 appearances across all competitions.

With the player’s existing deal set to expire at the end of this season, speculation surrounding his future has started emerging ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

TEAMtalk claim that Trippier is set to be available for free this summer, and Everton are showing ‘genuine’ interest in signing him as David Moyes wants to revamp the right-back position.

The Toffees currently have Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson as specialist options to deploy in the right-back position. However, the 37-year-old is set to leave this summer, and the Scotsman could also leave.

Everton have already held talks with Trippier’s representatives over a potential swoop. However, relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested in him, while he would be open to moving overseas if the right opportunity arises.

Trippier to Everton

So, the report state that Everton have lined up Celta Vigo defender Óscar Mingueza as a potential alternative option in-case they fail to secure Trippier’s service. Like Trippier, Mingueza is also set to be available as a free agent this summer.

Trippier is a right-back by trait but is also comfortable on the opposite side. Although he has reached the twilight of his career, he can still play in the Premier League for a couple of years at least.

Moyes has been mainly using Jake O’Brien in the right-back position, although he is a centre-back by trait. The Scottish boss has even used James Garner in this position at times this season.

So, Everton would be better off signing a new right-back this summer, and it is going to be interesting to see whether they eventually opt to secure Trippier’s service this summer.

Meanwhile, Everton are set to conclude the season with a trip to the capital to face relegation-threatened Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
