Liverpool have announced the signing of Bradley Barcola in a big-money move from Paris Saint-Germain.
After finishing fifth in the Premier League last season, Liverpool brought in Andoni Iraola to replace Arne Slot as manager in the summer.
The former Bournemouth boss has been reshaping his squad and a new winger was identified as a priority. Barcola soon emerged as a prime target and Liverpool had been locked in negotiations with PSG in recent weeks trying to thrash out a deal.
An agreement was finally reached between the two clubs and Barcola was given permission to travel to Merseyside over the weekend to undergo his medical and formalise terms for the move.
Those formalities have now been concluded and Liverpool have announced on their website that the 23-year-old has joined the club on a long-term contract from the French champions.
The Reds haven’t officially disclosed the fee but the BBC are one of several leading media outlets reporting that Liverpool have paid an initial £106m for the winger, with a further £17m in add-ons taking the deal to £123m.
Barcola in new Liverpool kit
Barcola has been posing in his new Liverpool kit and he looked delighted to have joined the Mersey giants. It’s also been confirmed that the French international will wear the No.29 shirt this season – which is the same number he used at PSG.
The forward becomes Liverpool’s fifth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Victor Munoz, Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo and Ifeanyi Ndukwe.
Last season, Barcola scored 13 goals and provided a further seven assists in his 49 appearances for PSG in all competitions. He also featured in all eight of France’s games at the World Cup this summer.
Since joining PSG from Lyon in 2023, the winger helped the club win three Ligue 1 titles, two Champions Leagues, two French cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
Barcola is predominantly a left winger but can play anywhere across the front line and has developed a reputation as one of the most dangerous wingers in Europe, so he should prove to be an excellent addition to Iraola’s squad.
He will now begin training with his new team mates with a view to making his Liverpool debut against Ipswich Town on Friday night.
