Ricky Wilson To Play Teen Angel In Secret Cinema’s Smash Hit Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical

Secret Cinema has revealed that Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson will join the cast of Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical this summer, taking on the role of Teen Angel in selected performances.

Wilson joins a cast led by Stephanie Costi and Lucy Penrose, who return as Sandy and Rizzo respectively after originating the roles in the production’s sold-out 2025 run. They will be joined by Giórgios Michaelídes as Danny and Arcangelo Ciulla as Kenickie. Further casting is set to be announced at a later date.

Speaking about his casting, Wilson joked: “At school I was in Grease and I feel I have to redeem myself. I was not yet the international pop sensation I am today and I only really wanted to do it cos I fancied the girl who played Frenchie (I was Doody) so this is my chance to show everyone I should have got a bigger part.”

“I don’t believe anyone from that production is now a professional singer, so in short, I win.”

Secret Cinema’s immersive adaptation of the beloved film returns to London following a critically acclaimed and sold-out run last year. Audiences will once again be transported to Rydell High, with the production combining live performance, immersive storytelling and the iconic soundtrack from the hit movie musical.

Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical will run at Evolution London in Battersea Park from 22nd July to 13th September for a strictly limited engagement.

Running for two hours and 15 minutes, the fully immersive experience invites audiences back into the world of Rydell High, bringing the beloved 1978 film to life through live performance, immersive storytelling and some of its most iconic musical numbers.

From “Summer Nights” and “Greased Lightnin’” to “Beauty School Dropout” – performed by Ricky – and the finale “We Go Together”, every song from the film is featured, performed by a live band and cast against a backdrop of multiple cinema screens.

The experience begins long before the main action unfolds. Audience members are free to explore a recreation of the film’s locations, including Frosty Palace, the Autoshop and the Carnival, while interacting with characters from the world of Grease. Visitors can take part in activities ranging from choir practice and pep rallies to sports training sessions led by Coach Calhoun, as well as sample American diner-inspired food and drink.

The production is directed by Matthew Costain, with set design by Tom Rogers, choreography by Jennifer Weber, lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Gareth Fry and video design by Ian William Galloway.

Following strong demand during its inaugural run, the 2026 season will expand its themed Roam and Return seating options, allowing audiences to move freely through the immersive environment before returning to reserved seats in areas including the Frosty Diner and the Drive-In.
