7 Times Serious Security Threats Disrupted Major Artists’ Concerts

Ella Langley’s last-minute concert cancellation is the latest reminder that security scares have become an unsettling part of live music. The country star was expected to perform at Tulsa’s BOK Center on October 9, but the show was called off roughly two hours before it began after a caller reportedly warned of potential gunfire and bombs. Police searched the building twice and said they found no credible threat, but Langley, the venue, and her security team ultimately decided the concert should not move forward.

Langley is far from the only performer whose show has been disrupted by a threat. From canceled concerts and delayed entrances to alleged plots uncovered just hours before artists took the stage, these seven incidents show how quickly a night of live music can turn into a serious security operation.

Langley announced on Instagram that her Tulsa show had been canceled because of what she described as a “serious security threat” involving her fans, venue employees, and touring team. Police initially searched the BOK Center and found nothing suspicious. Authorities reportedly conducted a second sweep after receiving another call warning about possible shots and bombs.

Police ultimately found no credible threat, and they said they had not instructed organizers to cancel the concert. However, Langley chose not to take any chances with thousands of people preparing to enter the arena.

2. Taylor Swift’s Vienna Concerts Were Canceled Over An Alleged Terror Plot

In August 2024, organizers canceled all three of Taylor Swift’s scheduled Eras Tour concerts in Vienna after Austrian authorities uncovered an alleged terrorist plot targeting the events.

Investigators alleged that the primary suspect had pledged allegiance to ISIS and prepared materials that could be used to construct explosives. Austrian prosecutors later brought terrorism-related charges against a 21-year-old suspect in February 2026.

The cancellations affected roughly 200,000 expected concertgoers, including fans who had traveled internationally to attend.

  • A bomb threat targeting Katy Perry was reportedly directed at the home of an innocent bystander.
  • Lil Nas X was the target of a bomb threat at the TIFF premiere of his documentary.
  • Taylor Swift reportedly increased her security budget as her movements continued to be closely monitored.

Lady Gaga’s massive May 2025 concert at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach went forward without incident, but authorities later revealed that they had arrested two people in connection with an alleged attack plot.

Brazilian police said those involved allegedly planned to use improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails while targeting the LGBTQ community. Gaga’s team said it did not learn about the alleged threat until after the performance.

The free concert drew an estimated 2.5 million people and was protected by more than 5,000 security personnel.

4. Morrissey Canceled Two Shows Following An Alleged Death Threat

Morrissey canceled concerts in Massachusetts and Connecticut in September 2025 after what his team described as a “credible threat” against his life.

The decision followed the arrest of a man in Canada who was accused of posting a death threat directed at the singer. Both shows were called off “out of an abundance of caution,” showing how a threat made in one country can immediately affect an artist’s tour elsewhere.

5. A Bomb Threat Shut Down Sabrina Carpenter’s Portland Concert

Long before the Short n’ Sweet Tour turned Sabrina Carpenter into an arena headliner, a bomb threat forced the cancellation of her April 2023 concert in Portland, Oregon.

Carpenter had already performed at a different venue earlier that day after technical problems affected the original location. The scheduled evening concert was then canceled because of what promoter AEG described as a credible security threat.

Fans were evacuated, and Carpenter later said she was heartbroken that she could not perform for them.

6. Morgan Wallen’s Concert Was Delayed Over An Alleged Shooting Threat

Morgan Wallen’s August 2024 concert at Arrowhead Stadium was delayed by approximately 40 minutes while authorities investigated an online threat involving two Kansas City Chiefs players attending the event.

Prosecutors alleged that a man posted about shooting the NFL stars if Wallen brought them onto the stage. Police located and arrested the suspect inside the stadium, and no violence occurred.

The incident demonstrated how threats aimed at celebrity guests can create a security emergency affecting the performer and an entire stadium of fans.

7. The Manchester Arena Attack Changed Concert Security Forever

The darkest example remains the May 2017 bombing outside Ariana Grande’s concert at Manchester Arena.

The attack killed 22 people and injured hundreds more as fans were leaving the venue. It also prompted renewed scrutiny of security procedures around concert exits, transportation areas and the public spaces immediately outside ticketed venues.

Including Manchester gives the list important context. It explains why performers, venues and law enforcement agencies may cancel shows even when a reported threat is eventually determined not to be credible.
