Princess Diana rejected any comments that her marriage was arranged | Royal | News

The late Princess of Wales’ marriage to Prince Charles ended disastrously over 25 years ago but experts continue to speculate whether the union was forced upon them. Claims the marriage was arranged started after experts noted the couple’s extremely quick courtship – they only went on 12 dates before deciding to get engaged.

In a recently uncovered interview documented in Reader’s Digest in 2001, royal author Ingrid Seward recalled asking Princess Diana whether the marriage was arranged.

Ms Seward said: “I once asked Diana whether her marriage had been arranged, and she told me with some irritation: ‘It was Charles and I who decided on the marriage.’

Diana continued: “Not the Queen. Us. No one else.”

When Charles and Diana began dating, senior members of the Royal Family seemed keen for Charles to speed up the process.

They initially liked Diana as she was a young and beautiful woman from an aristocratic family with close ties to the Firm.

Prince Phillip reportedly told Charles to either “propose to her or release her.”

In the documentary ‘Diana In Her Own Words’, the Princess of Wales reportedly approached the Queen for marriage advice as she believed Charles was moving too slowly.

Breaking down in tears, Diana asked the Queen what she should do, to which the monarch reportedly replied “I don’t know what you should do, Charles is hopeless.”
